We recently ran across the amazing work of Bernard Pras who is an artist from France.  He makes the most amazing classic pieces of art from the most unusual materials.  His pieces are striking at first glance but they offer a much deeper experience if you look long and close.

Some examples of his fantastic work can be viewed here.

After admiring his work, our search continued as we explored the world of Upcycled Art.  We found another extremely talented artist using recycled cardboard to create his stunning pieces.  Mark Langan writes on his website about using repurposed cardboard as his medium:

"Corrugated board is a material that can be easily recycled over and over again.  I see it as an endless supply source that I purge from my trash and neighborhood, reusing it towards my creations.  Artwork that is intriguing to the viewer whereas one might ponder quite some time over.  A form of green art, that makes a definitive statement with its contribution to the recycling movement."

One of the most creative forms of upcycled art are the incredible pieces of jewelry created by talented artists.  One of our favorites is the Bike Chain Bracelet.  These are especially popular with the younger crowd and would make awesome gifts.

These unique and beautiful Woven Upcycled Tin Bracelets are fantastically detailed works of art.  "Every bracelet is a one-of-a-kind piece, with some with diagonal weaves and others with straight horizontal and vertical patterns."

The great attention to detail and the obviously arduous process of putting some of these pieces together makes them a creation that really comes from the artist's soul.  They are pieces that will be treasured by the recipient.

When you are seeking unusual, beautiful and environmentally-friendly gifts, don't forget to give upcycled art a very close look.  You will be surprised at what you find.
